Happily solving the wrong problem!

A simple example is building a customer churn prediction model
instead of working directly on churn reduction or prevention.

When could it happen?

  • Not understanding the business problem and the business goal
  • Losing too much in translation of the business problem into the
    language of mathematics

At QuantUp we have several methods to avoid this serious problem:

  • We always work hard to understand the business problem and the
    business goal
  • We use our long-term experience
  • Our data scientists never work alone
  • Being sure that the whole project team understands the problem and
how we are going to solve it

Last but not least, the example mistake is not that painful. It’s a
very suboptimal solution rather than a complete failure. But it’s easy
to describe and understand.
